How do I create my first debate?

1. Sign in and click **New Debate** in the sidebar.
2. Type your question or decision in the input. The more specific, the better.
3. Choose a mode: **Fast** (1 credit, ~60s), **Balanced** (3 credits, ~2 min), or **Thorough** (8 credits, ~5 min).
4. Optionally attach context or select a debate template.
5. Click **Start Debate** and watch the agents argue in real time.

Your verdict streams live as the agents finish their rounds.

What are debate modes?

Accepted Answer

AskVerdict offers three depth levels:

- **Fast**: 2 agents, 1 round, ~60 seconds. Best for quick gut-checks and simple decisions. Costs 1 credit.
- **Balanced**: 3 agents, 2 rounds with cross-examination, ~2 minutes. Best for most everyday decisions. Costs 3 credits.
- **Thorough**: 4 agents, 3 rounds with full cross-examination and risk analysis, ~5 minutes. Best for high-stakes or complex decisions. Costs 8 credits.

BYOK subscribers can run any mode without consuming credits.

What is a 'verdict'?

Accepted Answer

The verdict is the structured conclusion AskVerdict delivers after the agents have debated. It includes:

- A **recommendation** (lean yes / lean no / genuinely unclear)
- A **confidence score** (0-100) reflecting agent consensus
- A **summary** of the strongest pro and con arguments
- **Key risks** surfaced during cross-examination
- A **reasoning chain** showing how the agents reached their conclusion

Verdicts are saved to your history and can be shared via public links.

Is there a free plan?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every new account starts with 10 free credits, no credit card required. All debate modes are unlocked from the start.

For ongoing use, you can subscribe to Pro ($29/month or $24/month billed annually, 500 credits/month), buy credit packs (starting at $4.99 for 100 credits), or subscribe to BYOK ($19/month) for unlimited debates with your own API keys.

The first 100 users receive 1 month free Pro as founding members.

How do debates work under the hood?

When you start a debate, AskVerdict:

1. Assigns specialized roles to AI agents (Supporter, Critic, Risk Analyst, Cross-Examiner)
2. Each agent independently builds its case based on your question and any context you provided
3. Agents exchange arguments and counter-arguments across 1-3 rounds depending on mode
4. A final synthesis agent reads all arguments and produces the structured verdict

All of this happens in parallel where possible, which is why debates stream progressively rather than all at once.

When should I use Fast vs Balanced vs Thorough?

**Fast** is ideal when you need a quick second opinion: should I send this email, is this vendor quote reasonable, is this a good time to book travel.

**Balanced** suits most real decisions: career moves, product decisions, evaluating a proposal, choosing between two tools.

**Thorough** is worth the extra time and credits for high-stakes choices: signing a contract, major financial decisions, architectural choices for large systems, or any decision where you want maximum adversarial scrutiny.

How do I interpret the verdict and confidence score?

Accepted Answer

The **confidence score** reflects how much the debating agents agreed after cross-examination:

- **80-100**: Strong consensus. The answer is fairly clear given the information provided
- **60-79**: Moderate consensus. Lean in one direction but meaningful caveats exist
- **40-59**: Divided. The agents found roughly equal merit on both sides; the decision hinges on your specific priorities
- **Below 40**: Genuinely unclear. More context or expert input is recommended

A low score is not a failure. It means the question is genuinely complex, which is itself useful information.

How many credits does each mode cost?

Accepted Answer

- **Fast mode**: 1 credit per debate
- **Balanced mode**: 3 credits per debate
- **Thorough mode**: 8 credits per debate

BYOK subscribers ($19/month) use their own API keys and are not charged credits regardless of mode. Credits are only consumed when AskVerdict's hosted API keys are used.

Can I give the agents extra context?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The debate input includes an optional context field where you can paste relevant information: a job description, a contract clause, financial data, or background on your situation.

Agents incorporate this context into their arguments. The more specific and accurate your context, the more grounded the verdict will be.
